Coupon Con

Don't you hate it when customer loyalty coupons have expiration dates? There's something disingenuous about rewarding you for your frequent patronage and then snatching the prize out of your hands before you get to claim it.

CVS is one of the worst perpetrators of this con. Every time I earn a  coupon (especially the general merchandise ones that can be used for any purchase), it has a limited window of about 3 days before it turns into a pumpkin. Invariably, the window closes before I run out of allergy pills or sunscreen, and the coupon ends up worthless.

This seems like a savage way of thanking me for the literally hundreds of dollars I spend in CVS in the course of a year. CVS should take a lesson from Bed Bath & Beyond. They honor their coupons without restriction -- no matter what the expiration date says. I'm not even sure why they have an expiration date, but BB&B can be forgiven for this little manipulation to keep us coming back. It's a great win/win. We get a 20% discount or $5 off, and they get happy, loyal customers.

It's an Rx that would make me feel a lot better about CVS.
